Canon heeft een nieuwe compactcamera aangekondigd die voorzien is van een een nieuwe 14,3-megapixelsensor. De PowerShot G1 X beschikt verder over een lens met 4x zoom en een uitklapbaar lcd met een beelddiagonaal van 3″.
De beeldsensor van de G1X is volgens Canon een gloednieuw ontwerp en daarbij met afmetingen van 18.7x14mm de grootste sensor die het bedrijf tot nu in een compactcamera stopte. De 1,5″-sensor is iets groters zelfs dan de sensor in een m4/3-camera van Olympus of Panasonic. De Canon-sensor heeft echter net als de ilc-camera’s van die beide merken een 4:3-aspectratio.
De nieuwe sensor moet kleinere scherptedieptes mogelijk maken en is daarnaast volgens Canon erg lichtgevoelig. De maximale iso-waarde ligt op iso 12.800. De sensor is gekoppeld aan Canon’s meest recente beeldprocessor, de Digic 5.
De 4x-zoomlens heeft uitgezoomd een beeldhoek van 28mm in kleinbeeldtermen en het diafragmabereik loopt van f/2.8 tot f/5.8. Gebruikers kunnen foto’s in 14bits-rawbestanden opslaan en tegelijkertijd ook een jpeg-kopie wegschrijven. Daarnaast is het mogelijk om hdr-foto’s te maken. De maximale resolutie voor video’s is 1920×1080 pixels.
Foto’s kunnen teruggekeken worden op het 3″-lcd dat uitklapbaar is, net als bij de 60D- en 600D-dslr’s van het bedrijf. De resolutie van het scherm is 922.000 pixels. De PowerShot G1X is vanaf maart leverbaar voor een adviesprijs van 749 euro.

De Nikon Press Photo Awards hebben als doel om één maal per jaar de mooiste of meest originele persfoto’s, van Belgische of in België verblijvende persfotografen, in de kijker te zetten.
Nikon nodigt professionele persfotografen uit om met maximum 10 foto’s deel te nemen. Deze foto’s moeten onder één of meerdere van volgende categorieën vallen: Sport, Nieuws, Stories of Portret.

Adobe has released Photoshop Lightroom 3.6 and Camera Raw 6.6. These are final versions of updates that were originally posted as ‘release candidates’ on the Adobe Labs site, and are available for immediate download. The latest versions provide RAW support for 9 additional cameras, including the Canon Powershot S100, Fujifilm X10, Nikon 1 V1 and J1, Panasonic DMC-GX1, Samsung NX5 and NX200, and Sony NEX-7, alongside over 30 new lens correction profiles.

The 1D X to have competition soon?
Nikon Rumors has posted specs of an upcoming D4. They claim it’ll be announced before CES/PMA in January. The 1D X is no longer alone.
Don’t expect a quick to market product, I’m not sure you can even buy XQD cards yet!

Fotograaf Nicolas Maeterlinck combineerde zijn vakkennis en zijn afkomst (hij is een achterkleinneef van Maurice Maeterlinck) in een boek dat het relaas brengt van zijn zoektocht naar de vele paden die deze Nobelprijswinnaar literatuur volgde.
Zowel in zijn geboorteland Vlaanderen als in zijn tweede thuisland Frankrijk weet Nicolas Maeterlinck uitgebreid fotomateriaal te combineren met archieffoto’s en persoonlijke teksten.
André Capiteyn schreef de historische informatie bij de diverse verblijfplaatsen van Maurice Maeterlinck en Fabrice van de Kerckhove werpt in een verzorgdeinleiding een licht op de plaats- en natuurgebondenheid van de schrijver.
Het boek wordt opgebouwd rond zeven locaties, de verblijfplaatsen van Maurice Maeterlinck: Oostakker (Gent), het kasteelRyvissche in Zwijnaarde, Gruchet Saint-Simeon, de abdij van Saint-Wandrille-de-Fontenelle, het kasteel van Médan, Grasse ‘Les 4 chemins’ en Nice ‘Les abeilles’ en ‘Orlamonde’.

New for the 2011 competition, POYi is expanding its Sports categories and creating a“Sports Division,” with an independent jury panel. Also, two special categories — “Impact 2011″ — focus on coverage of the Japan Earthquake and the Arab Uprisings in Libya, Egypt, Syria, and other nations.
